ROLEX President Photos:
Rolex Presidential:
The Presidential line of rolex was started in 1956. The day is spelled at hour location 12 and the date at 3. Inside it used to be a complex watch with automatic movement, additional discs for day and date making it a large and thick watch, these days its a lot slimmer compared to earlier years.. The watch makes a bold statement on the hand. The watch became popular after addition of the concealed clasp.
The first model (6511) lasted around an year and was replaced by a similar model 6611. This newer model featured the new calibre 1055 movement with its free sprung Micro-Stella balance and was the first to be labeled "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" on the dial. This set the new accuracy standards in watches.
The watch earned its name "President" after Rolex reportedly gave one of these watches to the then President of the United States Dwight Eisenhower.
With only a few design changes over the years the first modification to the President watch was the addition of the hack feature in 1972. This allows the second hand to be stopped if you wanted to set the time via a preset accurate source. At this time the shape of the head was essentially the same as it is today. The President watch was available in white gold, yellow gold, pink gold and platinum although during the early 1930's the pink gold watch was fazed out. From the end of 2000 the Day Date has been available in pink gold again.
The "Quick set" feature solved one of the watches biggest problems. Introduced in the late 1970's Quick set was added to all Rolex models by 1983. Instead of turning the crown round and round to change the date, the wearer can just pull the button out half way and a few turns at most and the correct date can be displayed.
The inclusion of the sapphire crystal gives the watch a sleeker look and also adds to the durability of the watch. The sapphire crystal fitted tighter makes the watch glass scratch proof. The early Presidential models were waterproof to 165 feet ( 50 meters) while the current model is safe at depths of upto 100 meters.
The 18k Men's Rolex Day Date Presidential is the most famous high-end wristwatch made in history. This watch continues to be the most popular among CEO’s, movie stars, and those requiring the absolute best in life. As many say, "You haven’t made it until you have a Presidential".
